So I know some of the main offenders around these parts are from the ATL area. Who's going? Anyone need a ticket? I have an extra. It doesn't look like it's sold out but I'd be happy if my extra ticket didn't go to waste. Any takers? I'll only charge you the $20 I paid. I think they're $25 at the door. They're at will call so let me know and we could meet there.

Man, great show. Yow didn't look older so much as he looked... more disgusting than in the past. The band was far better than the last time I saw them at Masquerade almost 10 years ago to the day. They were just about to break up, and the awesome but seriously out of place Jim Kimball was drumming.

Anyway, the stage banter was pretty awful, but the performance was killer. This hippy in front of us kept repeating "That wasn't so bad" twice as many times as Yow did and had some serious fucking gas. I was thinking "This is why I don't go out anymore".

Oh man am I burned out on All The Saints. H.A.W.K.S. should have been the opener.

Yeah, great show! I think the Nashville one may have been a bit better (band was tighter and the banter was better...which may explain the "That wasn't so bad." comments) but it's still the Jesus Lizard after all and they still make most look like asshole chumps for trying! The set list was pretty great! They played more off "Shot" this show than in Nashville. Though it's not my absolute favorite JL album, it is damn good and it was nice to hear more off of it. Double encore?!

Are you by chance talking about the dude in the fucking poncho?! Tha guys BO was fucking pungent!!! FUCK!

And I totally agree about how HAWKS should've opened! I haven't seen them yet but I've been playing the shit outta their album. They would've been a great fit! All the Saints wasn't terrible by any means. First time I've ever seen or heard them before (I'm not quite "local" after all) but I would've much rather popped my HAWKS cherry if ya know what I mean.

Over all, a killer show! Got rid of my extra ticket so it funded a shirt and JL was well worth the 4 hour round trip!

No, not the guy in the poncho - we were hangin' back in the seats.

I was slightly bummin' on 'Shot' material, and frankly, I think we (myself and maybe Ippy) may have been responsible for that, now that I think about it (Dave Sims came in here on the 'Shot' post and had some choice words. Like an idiot, after telling him what I thought - politely and respectfully, mind you - I said 'See you in Atlanta'. I guess the Lizard got the last laugh!). And no 'Slaveship' was a serious downer. BUT, as you said, an 'okay' JL gig is many lesser bands best of career showing, so very minor gripes there.

I like All The Saints, but they play pretty much every mid-level 'guitar rock' show in town as there's no one else at the same level. All of the other bands are either too huge to open (Deerhunter, Black Lips, Torche whoever) or too small to draw (Untied States, HAWKS, etc.). ATS have been playing the same set, by and large, for the last year plus and, frankly, they could really benefit from another guitarist who knows a chord or two. To their credit, they've been pulling back on their more 'shoegazery' leanings (ridiculous amounts of delay and reverb) and the drummer has restrained his James Brown impressions (jumping out from behind the kit after every songs and really playing up his 'rockness' - it was gettin' ooollld). However, in doing so, their weaknesses come a bit more in focus - namely the guitarist and bassist play next to nothing. They NEED another guitarist to pull it all together, their drummer, as awesome as he is, cannot do it on his own and clearly can't handle the attention either, LOLZ!

I only say this because they are ALMOST amazing. But if you and most of the other people you know are rolling their eyes when they see you on a bill - and these are the people who actually LIKE you - you're doing it wrong. I would really like to see them take that next step towards being a classic rather than a 'remember those guys? They were OK'. Fuck 'OK'.
